Deforestration in Iloilo

The Issue

THE FOREST LOSS WITHIN ILOILO.

In Iloilo Province, which is located in the Philippines, is known for its rich cultural heritage and natural beauty. Once home to lush, vibrant forests, the province has undergone significant urbanization in recent years. This transformation has been marked by the rise of new infrastructure and buildings, gradually leading to deforestation. According to information from Global Forest Watch

(https://www.globalforestwatch.org/dashboards/country/PHL/36/2 1/), the province is witnessing a steady decline in forest cover, a consequence of ongoing construction and development projects.

While there have been trees that have been replanted to make up for those that have been caught down, the percentage of cut down trees is far greater than those that have been replanted. The reason why we want to prevent forest loss as well as spread awareness to the fact that we are losing greenery within the province. Trees provide us with natural shade, fresh air and many resources such as paper among other things, the gradual decrease of these trees lead to higher heats, less resources and further worsen air pollution.

Our aim for this petition is get enough signatures to garner attention to the forest loss and hopefully be able to put into action the plantation of more trees and the prevention of severe deforestation. Signing the petition to reduce tree cutting and plant more trees is important because trees clean the air, help fight climate change, and protect wildlife. They also prevent floods and soil erosion. Supporting this petition means helping create a healthier and safer environment for everyone in iloilo City.
