Preamble
During the International Permaculture Convergence 2024, attendees and facilitators from around the world came together to share permaculture techniques, experiences, projects and success stories for the collective wisdom of all.  

From this shared collaborative space, our concern for the alarming amount of unrest, violence and atrocities happening in the world compelled the development of this statement.

Statement from the Concerned Members of the International Permaculture Movement: Defending Life Against Genocide, Ethnic Cleansing, and Aggression

We, the concerned members of the international permaculture movement, stand in unwavering solidarity with all victims of genocide, ethnic cleansing, and violent aggression. From Palestine to Ukraine, Lebanon, Congo, South Sudan, and beyond, these atrocities are not just violations of human rights—they are crimes against humanity and life itself.

The ongoing conflicts devastate ecosystems, displace millions, destroy food systems, and tear apart the social fabric of communities. They perpetuate cycles of violence, denying future generations the right to peace, security, and dignity. War-driven hunger and famine leave millions in despair, while profit-driven conflicts prioritize greed over life.

War and genocide destroy more than land and lives; they shatter the foundations of communities, strip away cultural heritage, and devastate ecosystems that take generations to restore. These horrors thrive on greed, power, and exploitation—the antithesis of permaculture ethics.

We believe regenerative solutions—empowering communities, restoring ecosystems, and building equitable economies—are the pathways to healing and preventing future conflict. As a global movement, we reaffirm our dedication to fostering systems that nurture life rather than destroy it.

We refuse to be silent while nations burn, rivers run red, and forests fall to the greed of war machines. We recognize that true resilience cannot exist in a world plagued by violence and oppression. As a global movement, we must align ourselves with those who are oppressed, marginalized and displaced, and we offer our assets, skill sets and voices on behalf of those whose voices are not heard.

End the violence. End the war crimes. Divest from industries of war and invest in peace-building, regeneration, and justice. Replace weapons with systems that heal—food systems that nourish, ecosystems that thrive, and societies that celebrate diversity rather than persecute it.

We call on governments, institutions, organizations, and individuals to stand for justice and accountability. Together, we can cultivate a world where compassion triumphs over cruelty, where dialogue replaces division, and where every individual has the opportunity to live with dignity and peace.

As permaculturists, we pledge to amplify voices of resistance, rebuild what violence has destroyed, and create systems where humanity and the Earth coexist in justice, abundance, and regeneration. We invite all permaculturalists to demonstrate their people care ethic - to feel with your mind and heart, to resonate with the immense suffering and be the healers you want to be, to generate ideas, incubate solutions and act with your conscience.

Let this stand be a reminder: Peace is not passive. It is bold. It is urgent. It is revolutionary. We lend our voices to support peace, the end of genocide and the creation of a just and better world.

捍衛生命，對抗種族滅絕、族群清洗與侵略行為

我們是國際樸門運動的成員。在此，我們堅定地與所有面臨種族滅絕、族群清洗及暴力侵略的人們站在一起。無論是在巴勒斯坦、烏克蘭、黎巴嫩、剛果、南蘇丹，還是世界上的其他地方，這些暴行不僅嚴重侵犯人權，更是對整個人類與生命的罪行。

這些持續的衝突不僅摧毀生態系統，還迫使數百萬人流離失所，破壞糧食體系，瓦解社會結構。暴力的循環剝奪了下一代享有和平、安全與尊嚴的權利。戰爭引發的飢荒讓無數人陷入絕望，而以利益為導向的衝突更是將貪婪置於生命之上。

戰爭與種族滅絕不僅奪去生命和土地，更摧毀了社區的基石，消滅文化遺產，並對生態環境造成深遠破壞，這些傷痕需要數代人才能修復。這一切以貪婪、權力和剝削為根基，與樸門倫理完全背道而馳。

我們相信，再生性的解決方案，如「社區自主、修復生態系統、建立公平的經濟體系」，能治癒創傷，並防止未來衝突。我們承諾推動全球性系統轉型運動，致力於滋養生命，而非摧毀生命。

我們拒絕對國家被摧毀、河流被染紅、森林在戰爭機器的貪婪下倒下保持沉默。我們深知，在暴力和壓迫的世界中，真正的韌性無法生根。作為全球運動的一部分，我們必須與那些受壓迫、邊緣化和流離失所的人站在一起，並運用我們的資源、技能和聲音，為被迫禁聲的人發聲。

終止暴力，終結戰爭罪行。我們呼籲停止對軍火工業的投資，將資源投入和平建設、再生與正義的行動。以治癒性的系統取代武器：建構滋養生命的糧食體系、健康繁榮的生態系統，以及尊重多樣性的社會。

我們懇請各國政府、機構、組織及個人，共同捍衛正義與問責。我們應攜手努力，創造一個慈悲超越殘酷、對話取代分裂的世界，讓每個人都能有尊嚴地和平生活。

作為樸門的倡議者，我們承諾將為抵抗者發聲，支持重建，並設計注重正義、多樣性與再生的共生系統。我們邀請所有樸門實踐者秉持樸門倫理「關懷人類」，以心與頭腦的連結，感同身受他人的苦難，療癒創傷，激發創意，並以行動實現解決方案。

和平不是消極的，而是大膽、緊迫且革命性的。

讓我們繼續為和平、正義與終止種族滅絕發聲，攜手創造一個更公正、更美好的世界。

Suggestions of how to help:

1. General actions:
   - Raise awareness where mainstream media is silent, sharing about what is happening on your social media accounts wherever possible.  Use hashtags mentioned above.
   - Write regular letters to your local political representatives using the content of the statement or in your own words.  Find local political allies and generate a movement of locally concerned community members. 
   - Divest and boycott business that enables, support and profit from genocide, ethnic cleansing, and aggression
   
   
2. Specific permaculture related actions
   - get creative and make it relevant to permaculture and your own specific skills and strengths
   - explore how might they be applied for maximum impact
   For example planting a garden or tree in honour of inspiring permaculturalists who have died in conflict zones and inviting others to do so on social media. 
   
   
3. Please share with other permaculturalists that you know in order that we may use our collective skills as active community changemakers to apply pressure and strategies as best we can.
