Defend the Defenseless: End Indoor Smoking for Our Children and Pets

The Issue

Every day across the UK, countless children and pets are subjected to the harmful effects of secondhand smoke in their own homes — places that should be safe havens.

As responsible members of our community, we cannot stand by while our most vulnerable suffer in silence.

Why should the most innocent among us— our children and pets — be forced to endure the consequences of our poor choices?

Secondhand smoke is a silent killer, linked to severe health issues in both children and pets, including respiratory problems, asthma, and even cancer.

Aren't parents meant to be the protectors of innocent children, nurturing them to grow up healthy and strong?

It’s time to acknowledge that it’s an outdated mindset to believe smoking around children is acceptable.

Many adults today were once children raised in environments where smoking was normalised.

If we don’t take action now, we risk perpetuating this cycle, allowing future generations to grow up thinking it’s acceptable.

Pets, our beloved companions, are equally vulnerable. Unbeknownst to them, their "beloved" owners are slowly putting their health at risk. They know no better than a child, and they cannot voice their suffering.

As pet owners, we have a responsibility to protect them, ensuring their health and safety.

If you smoke indoors, you are failing in that duty.

Should those who compromise the well-being of their pets for their own addiction truly be entrusted with the responsibility of another life?

Secondhand smoke is not just a personal choice; it’s a harmful decision that endangers the lives of those who rely on us for their well-being.

----

This petition calls for:

1. The implementation of a UK law that makes it illegal to smoke indoors in homes where children and pets reside.

2. Increased awareness of the dangers of secondhand smoke and its impact on our loved ones.

3. Support for families who wish to create a smoke-free environment for their children and pets.

----

By signing this petition, you are standing up for those who cannot protect themselves.

You are advocating for a healthier future where children can breathe clean air and pets can thrive without the threat of secondhand smoke.

There is NO "safe" amount of exposure to secondhand smoke for anyone.

Let us unite to create a community that prioritises health, safety, and well-being.

Together, we can push for meaningful change and ensure that every home is a safe space for our loved ones.
