The Trump administration is using a law meant to protect women — to exclude them.

The investigation was triggered by a complaint from a conservative advocacy group.

Title IX was written to open doors for women. The Trump administration is using it to slam them shut on some of the most vulnerable students in the country.

Smith College made a deliberate, values-driven decision to welcome trans women. Trans women are women. Allowing them to attend an all-women's college isn't a violation of anything — it's an extension of the same inclusion that women's colleges have always stood for.

The federal government has no business dictating to a private college who belongs on its campus. This investigation is not about protecting women. It's about targeting trans students and the schools that support them.

Smith College has said it stands by its values. Now it needs to know the public stands with it too.
