We, the parents, alumni, community, and neighbors of Roosevelt High School in Boyle Heights, founded in 1922, oppose LAUSD’s Roosevelt Modernization Plan, which will demolish our beloved historic campus! In 2018, the 50th anniversary of the East L.A. Walkouts (Chicano Student Blowouts), we affirm our multicultural legacy and commitment to educational justice. Roosevelt High and the role it played in the Chicano movement of the 1960s and 1970s is an important part of our neighborhood, our city, and the country’s history. We, the undersigned, urge LAUSD board members to act to conserve significant historical and cultural assets on the Roosevelt campus. Modernization, yes! Destruction, No! Save Roosevelt’s historic R and C buildings & the Japanese Garden of Peace.
