Defend our right to fly our national flag

Defend our right to fly our national flag
The Issue
We, the British people are demanding immediate action to protect one of the most basic expressions of national pride: the right to fly the British flag without interference, hesitation, or fear of being told it might “offend” someone.
Across parts of the country, local councils have discouraged residents from displaying the Union Flag, the St George’s Cross, the Saltire, or the Red Dragon even during the World Cup, when the entire nation should be united in celebration. The message being sent to ordinary people is unmistakable: your own flag, in your own country, is suddenly a problem.
This is not just frustrating. It is infuriating.
For generations, our flag has flown from homes, pubs, gardens, and high streets. It has been carried by soldiers, waved by schoolchildren, and draped across stadiums. It represents our history, our identity, our pride and the idea that it must now be hidden away “just in case” someone takes offence is an insult to every person who calls this country home.
Let us be absolutely clear: our anger is not directed at any religious or cultural community. The suggestion that British Muslims — or anyone else — cannot tolerate the sight of the national flag is not only untrue, it is a lazy, divisive assumption that helps no one. The overwhelming majority of people in this country, from every background, understand perfectly well that flying the flag is a celebration, not an attack.
The real issue is this:
Local councils are policing pride in our own identity, and people have had enough.
We refuse to be treated as though our national symbols are something to be ashamed of. We refuse to accept that cheering for our team during the World Cup is somehow controversial. And we refuse to allow councils to silence the very people they are meant to represent.
We therefore demand that the Government:
1. Guarantee the right of every resident to fly the British flag without interference or “advice” from local authorities.
2. Stop councils from issuing informal restrictions based on hypothetical offence or imagined sensitivities.
3. Publicly reaffirm that the British flag belongs to all of us, and that displaying it is a legitimate, positive, and unifying act.
We are proud of our country. We are proud of our flag. And we will not be told to hide it.
It is time for the Government to step in, draw a line, and make it absolutely clear:
In Britain, flying the British flag is not only allowed — it is our right
