Defend Online Freedom in China!

In China, you're banned from looking at the Amnesty International Web site – even if you're a journalist covering the Olympic Games!

News that our site was blocked came the day after the release of our new report “Olympic Countdown: Broken Promises.” The report shows little progress in fulfilling the Chinese authorities' promise to improve human rights.

Internet censorship for the people of China is nothing new, but the Olympics were supposed to be different. When China bid for the Olympics in 2001, it declared to the International Olympic Committee that selecting Beijing to host the Games would “give the media complete freedom to report when they come to China.”

Call on the Chinese Government to provide full media freedom and to protect freedom of expression:

Amnesty will continue to pressure Chinese authorities to grant foreign and local journalists alike the freedom to report on the news as they see fit—and honor their commitments as Olympic host.

Thanks for taking action with us!
