The Issue

Many Texans rely on hemp-derived products as a safer alternative to opioid medications that have led to numerous addictions. These products offer a lifeline to those seeking relief from pain and other medical conditions without the severe side effects associated with traditional opioid use. The criminalization of these products would not only cut off access to necessary medical care but also potentially drive consumers back towards more harmful substances.

Texas Senate Bill 3 (SB 3) proposes a widespread ban on the sale of hemp-derived THC products, which are federally legal. The enactment of this bill threatens not only individual health and wellbeing but also the livelihood of countless small businesses and entrepreneurs who have built their lives around the hemp industry. These businesses contribute significantly to our local economy by providing jobs and supporting community growth.

The sweeping ban would undermine the progress made in regulating hemp products and ensuring consumer safety. It disregards the input of industry professionals and the needs of the community that relies on these products for health reasons.

We call on the U.S. Department of Justice, the USDA, and federal leaders, including President Donald J. Trump, to intervene and protect the legality of hemp-derived compounds. The impact of Texas SB 3 extends beyond just those in the industry; it affects veterans, consumers, and families across the state who turn to these products for relief.

Join us in advocating against SB 3 to ensure that Texans can continue to access safe, regulated, and legal hemp products. Sign this petition today to protect small businesses and the health of our community.

While I voted in 2019 to legalize the cultivation of hemp as a member of the Agriculture Committee, I was unable to stop the THC Ban which came from the Senate. It was the House Position to regulate. We had the support until the President and the Governor weighed in and scared many of my Republican colleagues about the possibility of their reelection. The bill has gone to the Governor, where he is weighing whether to sign. Your advocacy should be directed to his office. Representative Terry Meza
