As a long-time resident of Grand Junction and more specifically 29 road, I, like many others, feel negatively impacted by the proposed 29 road interchange project. Our concerns are being unheard and bypassed by the city officials, who are using their advantage of funding and organizing to mask their intention behind their supposed 'transparency'.  Fundamentally important meetings around this project are being held, with little to no notice to the average resident thus compromising our potential to voice our concerns or opposition. 

Moreover, the projections and PEL studies presented to us lack credibility. They are tailored to fit a biased narrative and ignore crucial questions about the project's impact, such as the scope of eminent domain and the true extent of the intended corridor width.  Coupled with VAGUE information regarding the long term funding source, this further taints the transparency reinstated by the officials.

CDOT is on the record as seeing no transportation benefit to this project and they could require the county and or the city to pay for ALL future maintenance. 

While at the same time we hear the voices who say its a "good idea" the same reason is always stated, "convenient for ME,  will relieve traffic congestion on Patterson, opens the door for future growth in areas 'hard to access', this is all a smoke screen just like the campaigns name "close the loop"   ITS CLOSED.  The city developed the 24 rd interchange for future development, as well as the 32 road interchange we have a COMPLETED LOOP.   Develop those areas. 

A real but seemingly 'covert' reason some may be PUSHING this project is because of a very incredulous investment made by one person. One individual who owns a lucrative oil & gas company Shear Inc.   Who sits on the board of the GJ Economic Partnership, a member of the Chamber of Commerce's Energy Committee.  The Mesa County Commissioners have appointed him, and re-appointed him to a seat on the board of the Mesa County Federal Mineral Lease District... this individual is the sole owner of approximately 185 acres around the exact location where the 29 road interchange would be built.  He stands to benefit immensely. 

We fear that this project could become a catastrophic financial liability for the city and most importantly, its residents. In a July 15th, 2024 City Council workshop, City of Grand Junction Finance Director warned city council members that given the amount of revenue the city brings in through sales taxes, the debt service for the I-70 interchange project would "decimate our city capital, basically." 

We, the residents of Mesa County, demand that our city officials come clean and represent the best interests of those who elected them. This measure was wholeheartedly DEFEATED in the November 2024 election. Our wishes &  concerns must not be summarily dismissed, but rather addressed.   The community deserves unbiased information and genuine transparency.
