Justice for Willie K. Wilkerson

Justice for Willie K. Wilkerson
The Issue
Hi my name is Evelyn Rodriguez and I'm writing this petition in hopes of getting justice for my son who was wrongfully accused and is now serving a life sentence for something he is absolutely not guilty of.
My son, Willie K. Wilkerson was arrested and convicted in June of 2015 of a crime (Premeditated murder) that he did not commit. He went to trial and the jury of 12 deliberated for 3 days and came back with a guilty verdict based on evidence presented by the district attorney. This "evidence" was solely by speculations and hearsay. The critical testimony was from an ex- girlfriend who later admitted to lying under oath, because she was so upset that he didn't want to be with her an longer. She was arrested for perjury, and while being held was so resentful, that there were recorded phone calls of her saying she would "do and say whatever" to be exonerated. How credible is a person who openly admits that they would be willing to exchange freedom for the satisfaction of the DA? During the trial she ended up being a witness for the state when she was never at the scene of the said crime. This woman testified at the co-defendant's (others accused in this case) trial, but the jury on this case saw her lies and that individual was subsequently acquitted. The car she claimed was involved in the case was towed and taken in to be tested by specialists. There wasn't any DNA or leads that led the detectives to believe that this car was involved in the crime. Furthermore, there was no witness or evidence that incriminated my son. As my son's trial was going on his name was never mentioned once, only by the jilted girlfriend Amanda Burgess, who admitted she had been lying from the beginning.
My sons attorney, Steinberg, explained to our family that the jury from this particular county may be prejudice, but I had faith that they would make the right decision. I am very hurt and disappointed at the outcome.
What is right is right, and what is wrong is wrong. I am asking that everyone who has the opportunity to read this, to please sign it and request that my son receives a fair retrial. He is a wonderful person- An ambitious man with morals who graduated from high school and attended college. He loves to help others when ever he can and wouldn't hesitate to give you the shirt off his back. He has a great sense of humor and loved being around his nieces and nephews. He is an intelligent man who has had his freedom taken away for something he is simply not guilty of.
He's only 29 years old and has been incarcerated for almost 3 years and convicted for life. It isn't fair what is happening to him because of an ex girlfriend who is also the mother of his child. And not only am I heartbroken and wretched, it pains me to know that this situation is hurting his child.
I am praying for not only understanding, but support in a time of need. I am hoping for many sincere signatures and prayers for our family and especially my son through such a tough situation. I pray for his strength to grasp the thought of what he is currently facing ahead and faith that justice will be served and he will be freed. It would mean a lot to me and to my family. Help me to help him please.
Thank you for your time.
If you need to know more I will be more than happy to answer questions.
Sincerely,
Evelyn Rodriguez
