This disparity makes it nearly impossible to afford basic necessities like housing, which ranges from $900 to $3000 a month. The choice often boils down to paying rent and bills or putting food on the table - a decision no one should have to make.

According to data from the National Low Income Housing Coalition, there is no state in the U.S where a person working full-time at federal minimum wage can afford a two-bedroom rental home at fair market rent.

The current situation is unsustainable and unjustifiable. It's time for our policymakers to step up and address this pressing issue by increasing minimum wage rates in areas with high costs of living. This will ensure that all citizens can afford basic necessities without having to choose between food and shelter.
