The issue

This petition brings together feedback from concerned members of our community, all of whom are deeply worried about the proposed 55-home development off Shetland St and Kotinga Ave, Glen Eden, Auckland, New Zealand.

We believe this issue needs a strong collective response. That is why a physical petition has also been launched alongside this online petition, so that even more local residents can add their voices in opposition to this development.

Why this matters
The proposed development would place serious pressure on the safety, wellbeing, and character of our neighbourhood.

Our biggest concern is traffic. The area around 12c Shetland Street is simply not designed to cope with the volume of vehicles that a development of this size would bring. These are narrow residential streets in a quieter, lower-density area. A large increase in cars would change the nature of the neighbourhood and create real safety risks.

This is especially concerning for children, older residents, and other vulnerable people who rely on these streets being safe and manageable. Their safety must be at the forefront of any decisions made about this proposal.

Drawing from the developer, offered to council in the consent process.

Opening Kotinga Avenue to more traffic would make these risks even worse. It would increase vehicle movement, create more danger for pedestrians, and place added pressure on a street network that is already not suited to this level of use.

There are also wider concerns about whether the current infrastructure can cope with a sudden rise in population density. Public amenities and services such as waste collection, transport, and local schools are already under pressure. Adding a development of this scale would place even more strain on the systems our community depends on every day.

We are also asking for local biodiversity to be considered. Increased traffic, building pressure, and further intensification could affect the natural environment that helps make this neighbourhood healthy, liveable, and connected to nature.

We urge the Auckland Council to put the safety, well-being, environment, and interests of the existing community first.

Declining resource consent for this project is an important step in protecting our neighbourhood and ensuring it remains a safe, liveable, and welcoming place for everyone.

Please sign this petition and stand with our community to protect the future of our neighbourhood.
