Swatting, the malicious act of making unwarranted emergency calls to trigger SWAT teams or other emergency services to an address, has raised alarming concerns in recent years. This dangerous "prank" (It's really not a prank, it's serious and a deliberate act resulting in harm) has led to serious incidents, including unintended injuries and deaths. According to the National Emergency Number Association, roughly 600 'swatting' attacks occur annually (NENA, 2021). It is a deceitful act, wasting public resources and endangering the lives of innocent citizens and officers who are called to respond. This petition calls to categorize those who orchestrate such incidents as terrorists, criminally liable for creating fear and potential harm in communities. By doing so, we will send a powerful message that false reporting, endangering lives, and squandering emergency services will not be tolerated. We insist our legal authorities robustly penalize such acts to deter potential culprits. Please sign this petition to prompt our lawmakers into action. We also insist on charges of attempted murder for incidents in which no one died and premeditated murder charges for incidents in which people was killed.
