Declare Friday the 19th a Snow Day at Dwight Morrow high school due to dangerous weather.
The Issue
I am a student at Dwight morrow and I have seen firsthand how dangerous our campus can become due to severe winter weather. My peers and I have narrowly avoided injury from falling ice breaking off from roofs and trees surrounding our school building. We are not alone - many students across the city share similar experiences.
The safety of both students and faculty should be paramount. We believe that declaring Friday the 19th as a snow day would prevent potential accidents during school hours caused by hazardous weather conditions. According to data from the National Safety Council (NSC), slips, trips, and falls constitute the majority of general industry accidents in America. They cause 15% of all accidental deaths — second only to motor vehicles.
We understand that canceling school is not an easy decision for administrators who must balance academic requirements with safety concerns. However, we believe that under extreme conditions like these, safety should take precedence over all else.
By signing this petition, you are voicing your support for prioritizing student and faculty safety over risking unnecessary harm due to inclement weather conditions on Friday the 19th. Please sign this petition today!
