In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, Wilfrid Laurier University moved classes online. Although this was an inevitable event, it has impacted the quality of learning and the academic experience and wellbeing of students as a whole. We believe the quality of online courses are lesser than regular classroom experience and it saves Wilfrid Laurier tremendous amount of money and resources as the lockdown continues and distance learning is implemented. This is a one sided benefit as it is certainly detrimental to the financial wellbeing of students who happen to be on the receiving end of this change.

We are asking the Government of Ontario and most especially, Wilfrid Laurier University to reduce Tuition fees for online semesters for Sprummer (Spring and Summer terms) and possibly Fall 2020 by at least 25% in order to sustain students and provide the much needed assistance necessary to pull through this enforced change. Financial assistance in a time like this will not be everything, but it will definitely be a start in ensuring that we pull through this as a community. Students will be encouraged to make the best out of this difficult time and prioritize their mental wellbeing.
