As a deeply invested Death Note fan along with countless others, I was left bitterly disappointed with the series finale. Over the past decade, fellow fans and I have speculated and hypothesized about ways in which Light Yagami, the show's main character, could have decisively defeated his nemesis, Near. Today, we're taking this ardent wish, born from our passion for this groundbreaking anime, out of the realm of fan theories and echo chambers, asking for the realization of this alternative ending.

The Death Note series aired in 2006 and rapidly gained a global fan base of millions, leaving an indelible impact on pop culture (source: Oricon Style, 2007). However, the end of the series left a large percentage of these fans feeling dissatisfied. An independent poll showed that over 60% of fans would have preferred a different conclusion, one where Light Yagami triumphs (source: Anime News Network Poll, 2008). To this end, we who sign this petition request either a complete rework of Episode 37 and/or the addition of three more episodes  that carve a believable path for Light’s victory.

We believe this new ending wouldn't just meet the request of fans but could also breathe new life into the series and potentially attract a significant number of viewers. It's a chance to delve deeper into the morally ambiguous world of Death Note once more and to revisit one of the most intelligent and captivating rivalries in anime. 

Let's put pressure on the creators to consider this alternate conclusion to give fans worldwide what they have desired for over a decade. Together, we can give Kira the justice he deserves. Please sign this petition to help bring the fans passionate pleas to life.
