Kasaba, the new movie starring Malayalam's Megastar Mammootty is a sequence of many misogynist utterances and immoral cliches about women. It crossed a big line when this includes threatening a senior (woman) police officer with rape when asked why Mammootty's (police) character is disrespecting the said officer. This movie is now running in theaters fairly. It sets a dangerous trend of denigrating women for cheap laughs and whistles. The "explanation" given by the young director is less than satisfying as he clearly misses the point behind the outcry and why Women's Commission is taking this very seriously. As a responsible man who is not just a Megastar but an Iconic trendsetter of Kerala and a recipient of National Awards, we call on Actor Mammootty to make an apology to the women of Kerala for portraying and glorifying the lewd Rajan Zakaria (Mammooty's character) as cool and macho. We hope Mammookka will make the apology thereby being the leader of change in stopping misogynist lines and cliches in Malayalam and Indian cinema. We can't tolerate misogyny in our cinema anymore. As an art, Cinema should lead society to righteousness. Mamookka can lead by example by apologising to the women of Kerala.
