Dear Didi

The Issue

To

Ms Mamata Banerjee

Chief Minister, West Bengal, India

Dear Didi,

I genuinely believe that you are one of the most gifted leaders India has ever seen. Millions of people, like myself, would find it hard to believe that you have ever wanted anything but the best for our state. My faith remains in you alone.

I remember you from the days when you were not yet the powerful Chief Minister you are today. Back then, you faced countless challenges, even from senior police officers who tried to intimidate and physically harm you. But you were never one to back down. Today, this is your state, and you hold an unparalleled level of power—the entire system is yours.

History will remember you for your remarkable achievements, and your efforts to uplift the poor only add to your stature. Your commitment to non-communal harmony has made West Bengal a safer place, a rarity in today's world.

West Bengal is far from a state of disaster, and that’s precisely why such barbaric incidents shock our society. The women of your state look to you now more than ever — they see you as their protector. They don’t need anything else but your assurance to ease their pain. They place their safety and hope in you.

Please address the people of West Bengal and share your feelings about what is happening. Let them know that you, too, are deeply moved by these events.

I don’t believe for a moment that you would protect the guilty, no matter how powerful they may think they are. They are not mightier than you — not because you are the head of the administration, but because your state loves you and the people have unwavering faith in you. You have devoted your entire life to this state, and that loyalty is reciprocated.

I am eagerly awaiting your words to each woman in this state, assuring them that as long as you are here, justice will prevail. Be as firm as necessary — your people will stand by you. Address a public broadcast only on this on how you feel. Shake up the system, please!

I’m sure you remember me.

Looking forward,
