Due to the unprecedented hardships COVID-2019 has placed on students during the Spring semester, the American University, Washington College of Law should institute a Mandatory Pass policy for Spring Semester 1L doctrinal classes.

Students around the country are encountering disproportional disruptions as they are forced to relocate, lose campus resources, isolate as at-risk individuals, take care of-or quarantine from-family members, and tackle the infinite other individualized hardships resulting from COVID-2019.  Meanwhile, throughout 1L, our class was regularly told that 1L second semester courses can make-or-break a career.

As COVID-2019 has created an environment which has shocked academia's exalted equitability, a Mandatory Pass policy can create a fair grading system to help mitigate the inequitable circumstances created by COVID-2019 and, ultimately, should be adopted by AUWCL for at least 1L doctrinal courses.
