As principal of Miner Elementary, Mrs. Bunch has had a tremendous and positive impact on the children, on the school itself, and on the surrounding community. Not reappointing a principal who has done so much for the children and for the community, and who has the love and support of these children and this community, would be detrimental to the children enrolled there, to the school's operation, and to its connections and partnerships in the local community.
For these reasons, we request, before June 28, 2013 (the date Principal Bunch has been asked to vacate the premises):
(1) a meeting with Chancellor Henderson to discuss this decision; and/or
(2) that Chancellor Henderson reverse her decision not to reappoint Principal Bunch.
We have seen firsthand the positive impact Ms. Taliaferro-Bunch has had on the children, on the school itself, and on the surrounding community, and we are deeply disappointed with your decision and understandably concerned about the future of the school. We understand that deciding not to reappoint Ms. Taliaferro-Bunch without providing a reason is within your prerogative as Chancellor where she is concerned, and we acknowledge that there may be factors unbeknownst to us.
However, as parents, community members, partner organizations, and local residents with a stake in the school’s wellbeing, we contend that we have a valid interest in knowing your reasons for this decision. Deciding not to reappoint a principal who has done so much for the children and for the community, and who has the love and support of these children and this community, is not an action that sits well with us.
For these reasons, we request, before June 28, 2013 (the date she has been asked to vacate the premises):
(1) a meeting with you to discuss your decision; and/or
(2) that you reverse said decision not to reappoint Ms. Taliaferro-Bunch.
On behalf of the Miner Elementary PTO Executive Board, Men of Miner, H Street Development Corporation, The District Church, the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, select members of Omega Psi Phi and Kappa Alpha Psi, and other Capitol Hill community supporters, we thank you for your efforts to improve the DC Public School system for the sake of the children and the welfare of our city, and we look forward to hearing from you.
