DCA- Cherokee Mill Loft's Corporate is Negligent, Your Apt Complex Needs Repairs.

The Issue

Department of Community Affairs was involved in the development of the Cherokee Mill Lofts of Calhoun GA. They are a LIHTC property and corporate is still subject to DCA. My family has been here pretty much since it opened. We asked for DCA assistance in 2016 and they pushed the buck. Since then we believe it was never really up to code in some things. Repairs were not followed through then and now the disrepair is worse. This is after raising our rent every yr for the last three yrs. Even during the pandemic. Every time they used the reason to keep the property up kept. We have several problems that are not being taken care of. Security cameras are broke. Several doors are broke. Several a/c units don't work properly. There are roof problems and other leaks elsewhere. The windows are not weather proof. They are not even sealed. I have a window that cracked from top to bottom due to condensation and heat constantly aggravating it. We pay for a gym, laundry room, and computer room that are not up kept and therefore can not be used. They had disabled people dealing with 100 degree heat for a week in June because they use people that don't give quality service. They won't outsource to other people for service or parts. Pushing us into five to ten days of waiting for repair. Which takes away our habitability. They had others move in with no repairs. That same person ended up the ER that week while our air was out too. There are plumbing issues for a few of us as well. The line screams and whines. Or the toilet runs.  They have put me under more stress with my PTSD. I had to prove that they have denied me a repair on my tub for mos. Although, my tub faucet is fixed, it's too cold. Corporate doesn't handle people that don't pick up poop properly and at the same time get mad because their property is trashed. Never's enough trash coverage, so it gets thrown on the ground or forced to pile up in our apartments which is a lease violation. Can't catch bad tenants with broken down or pathetic cameras. We should be allowed our own cameras since our safety doesn't seem to be their concern. I believe my gas has been siphoned before. These poor, disabled, low income families deserve better treatment than this. Corporate needs to be held accountable to their negligence. Help the marginalized in this building fight please.
