Davis School District: Change Your Discriminatory LGBTQIA+ policy! Be More Inclusive!

The Issue

The Davis School board in Layton, Utah released a statement to their staff saying that:

  • No rainbow colors are allowed in any classrooms. No rainbow color clothing/apparel ny staff or administrators.
  • Staff and Faculty are not allowed to discuss LGBTQ+ matters with students
  • If a person requests to be called by a specific pronoun, or by a different first name, they are not allowed to, and must call them he/him or she/her, and must use the name on the student registration.
  • If a student begins to discuss any LGBTQ+ matters with staff/faculty, they are to inform the student that they are forbidden from discussing the topic and direct them to the school administration/counciling.

This is not right,  and shouldn't be happening in 2021. Research shows that teen suicides are highest among this population, and much of the reasoning is because of uninclusive practices such as this.

We are asking the school board to change such a degrading policy, and change it to one that include all genders and sexual preferences, and to stop belittling students based on who they are. This type if discrimination is intolerable and should not exist.

If the school board doesn't change these severely damaging policies, we ask that they step down from their position of power.

We want to live in an all inclusive world.
