Give Back OBU's Title IX Exemption

Give Back OBU's Title IX Exemption
The Issue
"I was very happy as a student at Oklahoma Baptist University. I felt welcomed and affirmed; but then I was fired from my on-campus job for coming out as bisexual. I couldn’t believe they would do this to me, and I no longer felt safe there. I made the painful decision to transfer to another college, but OBU never left my heart.
OBU claimed that they were able to fire me because its administration had recently filed for, and received, a Title IX exemption - meaning that it was allowed to opt out of a federal law that protects people from discrimination in educational programs. This school, which claimed to be teaching us the ways of Christ, had chosen to practice discrimination against people who it felt were undeserving of equal treatment" - A Former OBU Student
This goes against what institutions of faith should be about. Please join Bison 4 Equality in urging Oklahoma Baptist University to "give back" its Title IX exemption, and vow to protect and support all students.
Since 2013, the Department of Education has granted Title IX exemptions to 56 schools. And more than 40 religious colleges and universities across the country have filed requests in the past year alone. This is a dangerous trend as it makes these schools unsafe for students, and it promotes exclusion and discrimination among its students.
Our organization feels that the "right to discriminate" is not representative of the gospel or the life that all believers are called to live. We still love OBU, and know it can do better. We feel that the future of this university is being threatened by an administration that refuses to provide equal protection to all OBU students.
Please join our fight and call on OBU to "give back" its Title IX exemption so that all feel welcome on our campus.
