Replace Columbus statue w/ Chief Powhatan (Wahunsenacawh) statue.

The Issue

Columbus State Community College has removed the Christopher Columbus statue. That's great news! But now there's an empty spot in the middle of Columbus State campus. Lets tell the president of the college to replace it with an educational statue of Chief Powhatan, proper name Wahunsenacawh, leader of the Powhatan. He and his tribe were Algonquin-speaking people living in the Tidewater, Virginia region at the time English settlers landed in Jamestown in 1607. Chief Powhatan was the father of Pocahontas. The Nation is beginning to honor Columbus Day as Indigenous Peoples Day, so let's take it a step further and replace where the Columbus statue was, with a statue of Chief Powhatan to honor his people and all Indigenous Peoples! It is so important to remember who originally lived on this land and the true history that some people do not want to admit. Indigenous Peoples are the only people who were never immigrants or were never descendants of immigrants. We all know the history of the Englishmen discovering the land and taking it out from under the feet of the Indigenous People. Let's show the only true native Americans that we know our history and the history that is important to the college and the city.
