Save the Carolina Bus Barn, Raleigh North Carolina

Save the Carolina Bus Barn, Raleigh North Carolina
The Issue
The Carolina Bus Barn on Blount Street in Raleigh is on the North Carolina Historic Preservation Office Study List which indicates it could very likely have the significance and integrity to be listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is one of a few historic resources remaining in the City of Raleigh relating to transportation history.
Greyhound has pulled out of lengthy negotiations to sell the building to a coalition that includes an affordable housing nonprofit and has opted to apply for a demolition permit to clear the site.
Like many large historic commercial/industrial sites in central North Crolina this complex has the potential to spur creative adaptive use and remain a catalyst for development that retains a sense of place and of history.
Demolition not only takes from the community a vehicle for creative economic and physical development but further burdens the landfill with considerable construction debris.
Please reconsider your demolition permit application and return to the negotiating table allowing our community to retain its history and yours as a viable candidates for rehabilitation for mutual benefit.
