Stop terrorists convicted under the GFA getting day release during their 2 years in prison

The Issue

Under the terms of the Good Friday Agreement terrorists need only serve 2 short years of their given sentence. During this time they are afforded the chance of day release

Currently Seamus Kearney is sentenced to 20 years whilst serving only 2 for the murder of 25 year old Cons. John Proctor who was mowed down at the Mid Ulster Hospital after visiting his wife and new born son in September 1981. He was finally sentenced in November 2013.

His wife June said, "He was struck down and taken from us, from his family. He had a newborn son and another son at home. The life was taken out of all of us as a family. I heard the gunshots and I knew it was him. I knew Johnnie was dead because I heard the number of shots they put in him. It wasn't just one shot - they riddled him. I knew Johnnie's life was over."

Seamus Kearney has recently applied for day release on a monthly basis up to his release in November when he will return home to live less than a mile from his victim's family. He has now been out a few times although being reported as non-compliant with prison rules.

Kearney has already been awarded more in Legal Aid than the Proctor family received in compensation for Johnnie's murder.

Mid Ulster Victims' Empowerment urges you to sign the petition today to help keep convicted terrorists/murderers in for their designated time, disgracefully short though it may be.
