Data Center Moratorium in Plymouth Township

Data Center Moratorium in Plymouth Township
The Issue

Water. Power. Air.
Data centers need all of these. And they will take all of them from our communities if they are allowed. We, the people of Plymouth Township, call on our elected officials to PROTECT US. We need a MORATORIUM on data centers. If the Township is unwilling to institute a moratorium to protect us from these bad faith developers, then they MUST consider adopting ordinances that include rules to save our water, our power, and our air.
Background
Data center developers have hopped on the latest development trend and are quickly pushing past local zoning processes to secure approvals and permits. In many instances, these developers will not operate the data centers. Instead, they are flippers. They outfit the buildings and then sell or rent to mysterious tenants. They are bombarding municipalities with these requests.
In Plymouth Township, a data center developer is looking at 900 Conshohocken Road for a 2.2M sq foot facility. It includes natural gas turbines, known for emitting hazardous air pollutants, diesel generators, and a cooling system that could use millions of gallons of water per day.
The developer has a history of lawsuits in Montgomery County that are public records. The developer misrepresented their standing before the Zoning Hearing Board in December. How can we trust this developer to prioritize the health and wellbeing of Plymouth Township when we cannot trust their honesty before our Zoning Hearing Board?
Our Request
1. Plymouth Township must institute a moratorium on data center development to protect our community from data center developers.
2. If Plymouth Township is unwilling to institute a moratorium, they must create ordinances to protect us.
3. Those ordinances must be developed in coordination with groups that have community interests in mind and have a history of protecting water, air, power, and the environment.
