Let Teachers Work from Home If They Have Underlying Health Conditions

The Issue

In District 203, teachers should be allowed to work from home all five days of the school week if they or a family member have underlying health conditions. Educators should not be required to file for sick leave/take a leave of absence because of the school district's lack of consideration. The school board is putting its interests ahead of its staff members' safety. At the present time, teachers have to choose whether to keep their family's safe and healthy or have a steady income. With teachers absent from schools, substitutes will take their place, not always knowing the curriculum of the class, leading to students receiving a subpar education, lower grades, and an increase in mental health problems.
