Allow kids to go to school this fall with as much normalcy as possible
Allow kids to go to school this fall with as much normalcy as possible
The Issue
During this pandemic daycares, ymcas, and boys & girls clubs have all been helpful by being open for essential workers. Their protocol is taking temps upon arrival, kids washing their hands and then kids are allowed to socialize and just be kids.
The CDC recommendations for daycares vs schools are more lenient even though kids in daycare are more likely to be touching and playing closely together vs kids sitting at their desk.
Studies have shown how important school is not only for a child’s emotional development but they also need this time with peers to learn about empathy, social cues, and diversity. Kids depend on school for safety, for meals, and to feel loved and support from their community.
In addition research shows that the teacher is one of the most important factors in a child's success in school. The face to face interaction can never be replaced with that of a zoom call.
Many family’s cannot afford to have their kids in school part time, they rely on school so they can work full time jobs to support their family.
The CDC has now reported that surface areas do not pose as big of a risk as they had once thought and the WHO has recently reported that asymptomatic people are not as contagious and in their words it’s very “rare” for them to spread the disease. Therefore temperature checks at the door and sending those that are sick home similar to what the day care centers are doing now would seem sufficient enough.
Im asking for YOU to please allow kids to come back to school full time in the fall with an approach similar to daycares or at least as normal as possible. This would allow kids to come back to an environment they have come to depend on to feel normal, safe and loved over the years.
1) have parents or staff take temps AM any temps over 100.4 the child should stays home with siblings and does distant learning
2) kids sanitize upon arrival
