The Livesey Memorial Hall is an Asset of Community Value, a Sports and Social club at the heart of the Bell Green community. Built before the First World War as a workers' institute for Sydenham gasworks, it is a magnificent listed building and listed War Memorial, both badly neglected by the owner, Kier.

Kier is selling the Livesey to a commercial property developer, refusing to allow a community bid for the property. The developer has previously split up listed buildings into flats. The club can be given six months to quit at any time, but Lewisham has said that as a tenant is in place, the community cannot have a right to bid under the Asset of Community Value rules.

The community will lose two magnificent halls used for live music, comedy, events and boxing matches. A picturesque bowling green is in multi-sports use; a boxing club in the pavilion delivers excellent youth provision at a very low charge. Also to be lost are four tennis courts.

Please will you and your officers come and meet the local community, and see what we stand to lose?  We need the council to see the evidence about conditions of the tenancy, before a decision is made.
