Damesek's Army: Protesting the Injustices Against Stuyvesant's Assistant Principal Randi Damesek

The Issue

THE STUYVESANT STUDENT BODY IS PROTESTING THE UNJUST FIRING OF ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL RANDI DAMESEK.

JOIN US MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 9 AT STUYVESANT HIGH. WE WILL BE DEMONSTRATING OUTDOORS AND REFUSING TO ENTER THE BUILDING. WEAR RED CLOTHING!

Dear Stuyvesant Student Body, alumni, friends, and supporters,

The rumors are true. Assistant Principal of Organization (APO) Randi Damesek has been "fired." Daily, she reports to a “rubber room” where she spends her days with pedophiles, abusive teachers, and criminal offenders.

Damasek has committed no offenses to merit firing and is simply being scapegoated to pacify a media frenzy.

On Monday, we will be engaging in a full-scale school-wide protest. Please come wearing red to show your support! The entire Stuyvesant community will be protesting the decision and wil be refusing to enter the building.

We have reached out to DOE administrators including Chancellor Walcott, Network Leader Zaza, and Superintendent Bradbury. None will meet with us.  They want to silence our voices but we will not be silenced.

Ms. Damesek is accused of responding inappropriately to the cheating scandal and of being a poor testing coordinator. These allegations are false. In an email to Teitel, Damesek specifically recommended that he contact State authorities. Second, Damesek is an extremely strict APO. For years, she has reliably managed SAT, PSAT, and AP exams. After the DOE report was published in November, Damesek continued to coordinate the SAT, PSAT, and AP exams – demonstrating that the DOE believed her to be effective.

It is not a coincidence that Damesek was fired just days after the press wrote about this issue. In an effort to avoid attention, the DOE has used Ms. Damesek as a scapegoat, sacrificing her to pacify the media frenzy. As a result, Damesek risks losing her job, teaching license, and pension.

We’re not going to let that happen. Damesek has run the school for years. Her competency as an administrator is unparalleled. Damesek:

1. Manages SING!
2. Coordinates the Soph-Frosh Semi-Formal, Junior Prom, and Senior Prom
3. Is Stuyvesant's Testing Coordinator for AP Exams
4. Resolves Programming Conflicts
5. Coordinates Locker Distribution
6. Advises the Big Sibs and assists the SU
7. Plans Stuy Open Houses and Camp Stuy

At Stuyvesant, we’re taught to think for ourselves. We are taught to contribute to our communities and do what we think is right. What has happened to Ms. Damesek is an injustice. We have a responsibility to Ms. Damesek after all she contributed to generations of students to help bring attention to the injustice that has occurred. We have a responsibility to future Stuyvesant students to make sure they have an administration as effective and competent as the one in which we've learned. We have a responsibility to ourselves to stand up against a sickening corruption which threatens to undermine the very values upon which we have based our lives.
