In Los Angeles, a federal motion is in the process of being passed. This law would require large hotel companies, such as Marriott, to open their doors to the homeless and allow them to occupy any vacant rooms. Homelessness has been an ongoing issue, particularly in larger cities and metroplexes. Dallas county, for example, is occupied by over 4,000 unhoused residents. We have decided to advocate for the Dallas county population because, although the unhoused population this year is at its lowest point since 2019, it is important to keep that momentum going in reducing the numbers of homeless people. It is still very important not to overlook the needs and changes that need to be made throughout our local community. Homelessness is a significant problem because they are victims of poor living conditions and hygiene, little to no food/water, societal shunning/stigma, few resources to support themselves, and loss of identity.  Our petition aims to bring awareness to how we can address and combat the very large numbers of unhoused men, women, and children in Dallas county.  We plan to seek help from the Dallas county Marriott hotels to provide temporary housing for the unhoused via vacant rooms. Our overall goal is to  support temporary emergency housing to the surging Dallas county unhoused population.
