Bezos has responded to the outcry! He has requested the library be named in honor of Toni Morrison, the first Black woman to receive the Nobel Prize in literature. 

While it is a great Bezos has commented in our favor, this is NOT an official decision (as he is, in fact, not king of the world). The DC Public Library Director responded to the comments positively and said they will be reaching out to the Morrison family; however, we are still waiting for the oversight committee to meet this Wednesday, February 9th, and for the DCPL Board of Trustees to vote. As the initial vote was not publicly scheduled, we will likely not know if and when a new vote is occurring.

This petition will remain active until the name is changed.
