Add jester to the homecoming court

Add jester to the homecoming court
The Issue
There are many positions in the homecoming court at our school: Lord and Lady, Duke and Duchess, Prince and Princess, the universal King and Queen, and even Emperor and Empress for faculty. However, there is one crucial position that is missing from the court that was actually present in real royal courts of medieval times- the Court Jester. While not of royal blood or lineage, the Court Jester got to live in the castle with royalty and had the privilege of entertaining such high ranking people. Not including a jester in the homecoming court sends the wrong message to impressionable teenagers: that only popularity or born circumstances matter. I propose that we include a jester in the homecoming court to show that people who simply brighten others’ days are valuable. The position of Homecoming Court Jester will be granted to one senior student, without regard to gender, who has shown school spirit throughout their time in high school. The jester will be someone who is cheerful, peppy, and encouraging. Additionally, the jester will not be elected by the students, but by the faculty. Both students and faculty may nominate a student for jester, but only faculty members may vote. Additionally, anyone with the last name of “Jester” will be automatically nominated. Anyone with the first name “Courtney” or “Kort” and last name “Jester will automatically be granted the position. In the event that there are two people with such a name, they will be co-court jesters. Please help me make a much needed change to our homecoming traditions and add a court jester to the court. Thank you.
