Vancouver's North Shore is home to some of the world’s best mountain bike trails, and three ski resorts with a number of lifts, yet none of them offer a lift accessed bike park.

Cypress Mountain recently announced they will be building a mountain coaster this spring, so with this new approach to offer more summer activities a bike park might fit in their strategy as well. I recently spoke with the management at Cypress Mountain Resort and while they indicated there are no short-term plans for a bike park the option is not completely off the table.

One of the concerns is that there was limited demand for a bike park back when Cypress had a bike park in 2008, and that the area boasts countless world class free trails. 

Opening a bike park for Cypress Mountain has the following advantages:

• Increased employment opportunities for seasonal staff at the resort 
• Increased restaurant and retail opportunities at the resort
• Less dependency on winter weather to generate revenue

The bike park and trails could be sponsored by (local) businesses including:

• Local bike shops
• Bike (part) manufacturers
• (Energy) drink manufacturers 
• Other local businesses
