AirAsia Flight Cancellation - Protecting Consumers' Rights

The Issue

On Friday 05-11-2021, I have received two SMSes and two emails regarding my flight cancellation on 26-01-2022 and 04-02-2022 due to "operational reasons." There were options given but only limited to two:
1. To move the flight and travel by 15-12-2021
2. To refund the amount to my credit account

I am sure a lot of AirAsia customers also faced the same problems as I did during this period of time and are upset or even frustrated about the given choices, knowing that we would need to spend even more money or change our plans.

The two options stated above are clearly unfair, as you can see from the earlier dates of the booked flights, I had intended to go home during Chinese New Year (which I believe that many of us planned to do so). Yet, for some reason, AirAsia disallows me the choice to even do so. May I also remind you that it has been 2 years since most of us are back to our hometown due to the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown.

Other than that, I find it suspicious that the management canceled our flights. Why would I say so? Because they do have flights on the same day but at a different time. However, they did not give us the choice to fly on the same day or even let us move our flights after 15-12-2021. So, is this a dirty trick to make us spend more? Just take a look at the price increment (~70%), and you can see how absurd this is.

The Consumer Protection Act, 2019, states that consumers have protection rights from unfair or restrictive trade practices. From the above incident, it is very obvious that AirAsia does not respect the protection rights of customers, leaving customers with no choice but to accept the "conditions" offered by AirAsia, which in this case, is very one-sided and unfair to us customers.

It is time for us to know our rights and exercise them. Though this is a meticulous and lengthy process, I do hope that you will voice out and join me to make our voices heard.
