Curtail Discrimination and Promote Diversity at Pet Supplies Plus

The Issue

I am a former employee of the Pet Supplies Plus store in St Albans, WV. Working there used to be a joy, especially under the management of Devan, who ensured a fair and positive work environment. However, after Devan's departure, the venue took a regressive turn, with John King becoming the new manager.

John brings with him a highly problematic mindset, more suited to a construction job site than a retail store. John routinely uses derogatory language towards people of color and members of the LGBTQ+ community. This behavior creates a hostile and pressurized atmosphere in a place meant to be warm and welcoming, and this slant stands in stark contrast to the diverse society we live today.

Around 36.5% of St Albans's population witnesses a form of racial or ethnic diversity according to United States Census Bureau. Moreover, there's an increasing recognition of LGBTQ+ people nationwide, standing against John’s inappropriate and offensive attitude.

It is crucial to understand that diversity and inclusion are not just buzzwords, but essences of a thriving society. Businesses, including retail stores like Pet Supplies Plus, potentially yield better results when their teams are diverse, according to a 2020 report by McKinsey.

We request Pet Supplies Plus to address this issue urgently, ensuring that their stores foster an environment of acceptance and respect, irrespective of an individual's race or sexual orientation. It's time to take action against John King's discriminatory practices and appoint leadership that truly understands and appreciates the beauty of diversity.
