Provide First Aid Education in Schools

First Aid is a skill you learn for life and can be learnt from any age. It is best learnt from a young age. It can prove vital in an individual’s life as the simplest injuries can become life-threatening if not treated properly.

There is a lot to be done to improve the education our children and teenagers are getting. Currently, in schools’ pupils are not receiving basic life skills that they need to be able to become a well-rounded citizen that can contribute to the changing needs of our society.

Schools should be motivated to provide pupils with skills for life without needing to be lawfully bound to deliver this sort of education.

There is an increase of pressure on our health service and we shouldn't be relying on our emergency services to be the first help a patient receives in a medical emergency. Something as simple as teaching our children and young people how to correctly put on a bandage and elevate the affected limb could be the difference to someone bleeding out.

We need to encourage our governments and departments of Education to see the risks that we currently face and act on it by introducing law to provide this basic education. Schools should be encouraged to introduce this new subject themselves without being required by law.

77% of our children and young people in the UK either do not know any first aid knowledge or wouldn't be confident in using it. This needs to change with the increased age of our society and increased vulnerability we see every day.
