Curren Price: Reverse Your Order to Confiscate and Destroy "Tiny Homes" for LA's Homeless

The Issue

I have been following the incredible story of "Tiny Homes" which are built by an amazing young man named Elvis Summers.

I first heard about his humanitarian efforts in this Global News report on May 1st, 2015: http://globalnews.ca/news/1973897/los-angeles-man-builds-tiny-house-for-homeless-woman/

It's been wonderful and inspiring to follow Welcome Home: A Tiny House, Huge Purpose on Facebook for the greater part of a year.

But today, I just found out that:

"Ten of the thirty-seven tiny homes that LA resident Elvis Summers has built and donated to the homeless population of South Los Angeles, from Van Nuys to Inglewood, are being confiscated at the order of city council member Curren Price, who represents the neighborhood." Source: http://usuncut.com/class-war/la-seizes-tiny-homes/

I'm aghast at this decision especially in light of the fact:

The city did NOT offer alternate housing.

To quote Elvis Summers, "When the city took the houses, they didn’t offer housing, they straight kicked them out." Source: Los Angeles Times

Therefore, until these homeless people can be given immediate (and adequate) alternate housing, I (and those who sign this petition) are demanding that Councilman Curren Price reverse his decision.

The homes that Elvis Summers (along with others) built should NOT be confiscated and destroyed.

And Elvis Summers is correct: These homes should be defaulted back to him, rather than destroyed. Evicting the homeless from his "Tiny Homes" (without any alternate means of protection for these people) should be considered a human rights violation.

The world needs more people like Elvis Summers.

I'll be in touch,
