TED is arguably one of the most influential sources of information in our modern age which brings together some of the most powerful and brightest minds of our time to discuss the issues that we face now and in the future. Up until know they have become a beacon of hope for the world by providing ideas, wisdom, support and answers to some of the most difficult problems that plague the world. But now it seems that when the danger truly dawns they choose to hide and cower behind false pretenses.
Recently TED held a talk which hosted well known billionaire Nick Hanauer discussing the current economic crisis and income inequality. In his presentation Hanauer exposes the inept argument that rich people create jobs for what it is, lies. His argument focused on the fact that rich people do not create jobs, and that it is in fact the middle class who are the life blood of the economy and who are responsible for creating jobs. He identifies the massive shift in money and power from the poor the ever-growing rich, and reveals the trend that has been growing exponentially since the late 70s. Hanauer also explains what happens when big businesses are given tax-breaks, and how it correlates with the unemployment, and income levels of the economy, and the continually expanding prices at which it costs to attend higher education. Yet, despite everything that Nick Hanauer said, despite the standing ovation which he was given after his presentation, TED refuses to publish his talk.
It is now, more than ever, that we need such voices to be heard. We are living in a time where the middle class is drowning below the water's surface, and our voices are not being heard. Amidst our cries of pain and choking breath, big businesses reap the benefits of our suffering. We cannot allow Nick Hanauer's voice to be stifled, like many and most of our own. Nick Hanauer's voice must be heard, and it must be now.
