Revert WHNN 96.1 FM back to its old music/show format

The Issue

WHNN 96.1 FM, based in Saginaw, Michigan, had been well-known for playing popular hits from the 60s, 70s and 80s. On January 15th, 2016, WHNN 96.1 FM changed their music format. Now they play songs from the 80s to the present. In addition, two of the station's talk show hosts, Johnny Burke and Blondie were dismissed. Listeners in Mid-Michigan are extremely upset with the format change. They are leaving in droves because they don't have their usual talk show hosts, the music they love and helpful bits of news like traffic, weather and school-closings.

The problem with this change is there are half a dozen radio stations in the Bay City/Saginaw/Midland area that play the "80s to now" format, including two stations that broadcast from the same studio. The 60s, 70s and 80s music represents a major cornerstone in American culture; it should not be "shelved" just because it's "too old" or because "it's 2016 and we need to keep up with the times." The remedy for this problem is very simple: Revert to the previous music format and bring back talk show hosts Johnny Burke and Blondie.

Like so many people, I find the new music to be tasteless and without meaning. Most of the time, it has no good beat to it. This is why music from the 60s, 70s and 80s has been so popular; it has that beat, rock and roll, and soul to it. This 30-year span contains hundreds, if not thousands, of timeless classics from Elvis, Roy Orbison, the Beach Boys, the Temptations, the Four Tops, the Righteous Brothers, Diana Ross, Martha Reeves, and the list goes on and on.

WHNN has had the best selection of music in Mid-Michigan, reaching as far south as Brighton/Hartland, as far north as Tawas City/West Branch and far west as Mount Pleasant/Clare. Now WHNN has downgraded to a bland, tasteless music selection.

Cumulus-Saginaw: The comments and posts on the station's Facebook page are painfully obvious: Bring back the oldies from the 60s, 70s and 80s, and bring back Johnny Burke and Blondie.
