5G Free Cumbria

The Issue

As many of us are aware, 5G is being rolled out in many cities around the UK and the world.  The Government is currently in talks to scrap the current legislation on height of masts that are acceptable.

The new 5G masts could be as tall as Nelsons Column (around 50 meters) in rural areas and create coverage that will be inescapable.

Ministers and Government are currently planning on ploughing on with the roll out, with disregard for local councils and public concerns. This un-democratic action disables the ability of locally elected voices of the local populations to be considered and heard.

Many scientists are warning of the potential dangers, both to human and environment from the 5G radio waves that are produced from the cell towers. Some of the dangers to humans include:

* DNA single and double-strand breaks (which leads to cancer)

* Oxidative damage (which leads to tissue deterioration and premature ageing)

* Disruption of cell metabolism

* Increased blood-brain barrier permeability

* Melatonin reduction (leading to insomnia and increasing cancer risks)

* Disruption of brain glucose metabolism

* Generation of stress proteins (leading to myriad diseases)

5G will also potentially threaten natural ecosystems. According to several reports over the last two decades - low-level, non-ionizing microwave radiation affects bird and bee health. It drives birds from their nests and causes plume deterioration, locomotion problems, reduced survivorship and death. And bee populations suffer from reduced egg-laying abilities of queen bees and smaller colony sizes. More evidence of ecosystem disruption comes from this 2012 meta-study, which indicates that 593 of 919 research studies suggest that RFR adversely affects plants, animals and humans.

Speculation about 5G towers being located next to domestic areas has been going around since 2017. An event that occurred in The Netherlands has sparked some outrage and more worries and concerns.

In October 2018, hundreds of birds in a park in the Netherlands suddenly started falling from the trees and dying during a suspected 5G experiment around The Hague.

It was also reported that nearby ducks that were swimming began to react oddly, concurrently putting their heads underwater in what is believed to be, to escape of the radiation from the test, while others flew away.

While there is no concrete evidence that suggests a direct link to the death of the birds to the experiment that was taking place, others are convinced that the spontaneous death of hundreds of birds was not just a coincidence.

It is believed that the micro waves from 5G are far more catastrophic to insect life than human. With an already witnessed impact on Bee populations with the previous generations of cellular data systems, including disorientation, colony collapse and death, 5G is looking potentially calamitous for our pollinators and other insects, food sources for many birds and other animals.

Trees absorb 5G. In many countrie's they are being cut down to prevent this from happening and to allow free flow of waves from masts. Those that don't get cut down still face an uncertain future. Studies have shown some tree species are seriously effected by 5G radiation leading to cellular leaf damage and potential death. Our suppliers of Oxygen and consumers of Carbon, some of the cornerstones of our environment and survival could be unwittingly at risk.

5G has the ability to completely revolutionize our society. Online gaming, self driving cars, the "internet of things" smart home devices such as washing machines that order washing powder when they have run out, exceptionally fast download speeds etc, but at what expense?

There has not been enough research conducted before rolling out 5G into the country and the stakes could be high. Some countrie's and states eg. Florida, California, Brussels and Netherlands are not doing so until further research is conducted due to the high risk posed by inescapable micro waves saturating the environment.

The good news is that Glastonbury has won an appeal to become a 5G free town due to the large number of objections. If we can get sufficient signatures we can challenge our council's and government and we stand a chance at least of preventing "Big Tech" greed and ignorance from destroying the lives of many and our beautiful environment for profit in what many claim to be the biggest threat to all life.

Many in Cumbria do require better internet access, however would people be prepared to potentialy risk their own, their family's health and the environment to be able to upload a selfie or download a film in seconds, or not have to remember to buy washing powder?

We do have other options, Fibre Broadband could be made more accessible for example, but 5G and the potential risks associated, with enough signatures, could be blocked from taking up residence in our beautiful home and county. Until the further research has been presented to the public and the true cost of "progress" has been shown.
