As a student who attends Culpeper County schools, us young females have to worry about what we look like, as young males get to wear what they please. The school dress code is very sexist, and shows great gender inequality etc. It may be a "disruption to the education" but it still is not fair. Males can wear whatever they would like without anything getting said to them. You can have a male and a female wear the same thing to school, yet the female would get in trouble while the male is walking around worry free. As a female, we have to worry about getting up and getting dressed for school thinking about if it's the right outfit, if it's appropriate, if we are going to get in trouble, if we look okay, it's just not fair. Culpeper County Schools want us to be who we are and express ourselves but when we try it's a problem. If my shoulders are a problem to students or teachers for "disrupting our education" maybe they shouldn't be in school. If my thighs are a problem, they shouldn't be in school. They shouldn't be thinking that way in any shape or form. Us females stress and worry about what we look like and what we dress like just to come to school. We come to school for education, to learn, to meet new people, to express ourselves, not to distract others from their education. I feel as if targeting the dress code towards young women so our bodies don't distract young men is unfair and unjust. We are targeting the wrong gender, instead of teaching young women to cover up, you should start teaching your sons to be respectful of our young women, especially in school or professional settings. As a female, if you agree with this please feel free to sign and help us change our dresscode and be who we are.
