Keep Cleveland's Cudell Orchard of 40 Fruit Trees for Community

The Issue

This is a petition to stop the plan to remove 40 apple, pear and cherry trees along with several mature shade trees in the Cudell Orchard and replace them with a commercial building and parking lot.

These fruit-bearing orchard and shade trees are located in Cleveland's Cudell neighborhood, which has one of the lowest tree canopy rates in the city at 13%. The Cudell neighborhood's tree canopy is rapidly declining and now they want to remove even more trees.

The Cudell Orchard is 1.25 acres located next to Neal Terrace housing off Detroit Avenue near W87th Street. The orchard was gifted to the Cudell neighborhood by Edy's Fruit Foundation as part of the Communities Take Root program. [see article below]

Neighbors want to keep this a green space for everyone in the community so they can have access to healthy food too and also enjoy the health benefits of a canopy of mature shade trees

We believe this neighborhood deserves to keep its green space, have access to the fruit and also should have a voice at the table of decision making when it comes to taking this asset away from us. With Cleveland in the process of protecting their tree canopy, we believe this orchard is a prime example of the need for protection.

Please sign the petition to help protect this amazing asset for the Cudell neighborhood.
