Many people of the the CSUCI student body have experienced immense challenges this semester with not having access to a dedicated and intentional place of study. Many CSUCI students consider The Broome Library to be one of the most important places to study and to be able to accomplish work efficiently. The community of the CSUCI student body has felt that the CSUCI Administration has not communicated well to students whether or not they are working towards trying to make studying in The Broome Library a possibility in the near future. 

For many students, including myself, it is often a challenge to be able to focus on studying at home when the other people residing there and various dynamics don't make for a conducive environment for studying. 

CSU Chancellor Timothy White has already made it clear that the Spring Semester of 2021 will be online as well. This has caused even greater stress and frustration for many CSU students. 

There should be greater consideration when it comes to making way for re-opening The Broome Library. Ventura County is currently in stage red with COVID-19 cases which means that businesses can open back up inside at 25% capacity. 

The Broome Library has more than enough room to provide safe spaces for students to study. 

Here's how allowing students to study safely at Broome again could look like:

1. Have dedicated study rooms.
2. Have an appointment system to where students can go online and reserve a study room for a standard and limited set amount of time. 
3. Ensure that every student has a mask on when entering and exiting the library. 
4. Ensure that every student sanitizes their hands upon entering the library. 
5. Have a librarian check each students temperature before entering the library. 
6. Have a cleaning team that sanitizes the rooms after each student study session. Ensuring that the room is up to proper hygienic code for each new student entering a new study session. 

With these protocols set in place, I believe this is an honest and safe way of providing a space again for students to study in a focused and intentional environment. 

I, along with many other CSUCI students, would like to make the request known that we desire to do well with our time at CSUCI, and that for many students means having a dedicated, intentional, and focused place of study. 

Re-Open Broome Library, please.
