CS2 Movement Community Petition: Addressing Critical Issues

The Issue

To: Valve and the CS2 Development Team,

This petition, signed by members of the Counter-Strike movement community (surf, bhop, kz), addresses issues affecting our game.

Changes to Counter-Strike's movement mechanics have led to widespread frustration among server hosts, plugin developers, and community members.

The most critical issue is surf ramp bugs, which result in players getting stuck or being pushed off ramps. While ramp bugs were extremely rare in CS:GO, occurring occasionally at the seams between ramp parts, the transition to CS2 has significantly increased their frequency. This has made most surf maps frustrating to play, introducing an element of randomness as players may be stopped and thrown off almost any ramp at any time. The community found a work around to make maps more playable (using hull collision on ramps) that decreased the frequency of ramp bugs.

The situation worsened after the "Arms Race" update, with ramp bugs now commonly occurring on perfectly straight ramps and hull collision no longer being as effective. This has rendered most surf maps unplayable, in contrast to before this update when the community was successfully playing maps.

It's important to note that this is not an inherent problem with the Source 2 engine, as surfing works perfectly fine in Half-Life: Alyx.

We advocate for two key changes. First, we request a reversion of the changes to Counter-Strike's movement systems (specifically around surfing) to their state in CS:GO (potentially behind a cvar, should the developers be concerned about affecting competitive play).

Second, we urgently need improvements to the server browser interface and infrastructure to make community servers populated again. Many long standing communities are shutting down and leaving Counterstrike because of this. Fake servers spamming the server list making it unusable for the average player and community servers must rely on plugins to correct bugs such as cs2 servers showing the wrong server capacity and no player information.

Respectfully,
The movement community.
