This petition calls for justice for a starved Great Dane, Charlie, who surrendered to the Ottawa Humane Society. Jason Woodruff sold Charlie on Kijiji in January and the man who bought Charlie took him immediately to the Ottawa Humane Society for medical help. OHS inestigators say Woodruff had not been feeding the dog enough for months.
An OHS veternarian says a dog the size of Charlie should have weighed about 120 pounds. Charlie weighed just 53 pounds and was nothing but skin and bones.
This is abhorrent abuse and it needs to be punished! This type of cruelty should not be allowed to go unpunished.
We the undersigned respectfully request that Crown Attorneys proceed by way of an indictable offence in this case and that, if Jason Wooruff is found guilty of the charges of animal cruelty against the Great Dane named Charlie, Crown Attorneys recommend to the judge the maximum sentence available under the law and the Honourable Sentencing Judge apply the maximum sentence available for these offences.
We also request that, if Jason Woodruff is found guilty, the court, under relevant legislation, make an order prohibiting the accused from owning, having the custody or control of or residing in the same premises as an animal or bird for the rest of his lifetime.
