The Issue

Upon findings in my most recent check up on the website of Canada Revenue Agency indicates that there is no active claim for our cows and plows by Cross Lake FN. I am confident that if our chief and council apply and both parties come to a settlement, our leadership can ensure that all details are carefully considered, addressing concerns about possibly compromising our treaty rights. It is essential to scrutinize every word and sentence while coming to an agreement before signing anything.

As an off-reserve member residing in Winnipeg, I, Shayla Robinson, have noted that several members, primarily residing on-reserve, within the Cross Lake Band of Members Facebook group are eager to see advancements for their compensation, pursued through the courts while prioritizing the protection of our treaty rights as some members are fearful of losing their treaty rights.

I kindly encourage each person signing this petition to embody financial responsibility, recognizing that there is no need to hastily expend their funds, in repects to our ancestors, who endured poverty resulting from unfulfilled promises within Treaties 4, 5, 6, and 10.

It is essential to acknowledge that wealthy individuals avoid exceeding their financial means. Consequently, if you are currently without employment, focus on self-growth and cultivate a savings habit. Upon achieving self-sufficiency, you may consider purchasing a vehicle, taking into account the related maintenance costs.

Dear Chief David Monias and Councillors Florence Blacksmith, Brenda Frogg, Donald McKay, David Muswaggon, Shirley Robinson, Vivian Scott, Kyle Scribe, Vaughan Blacksmith, I highly recommend additional funds for checkstops and trauma-informed community-based security to work in conjunction with the RCMP during the distribution of cows and plows settlements, in the event that we all get our cows and plows.

I urge the community to elect public trustees for individuals who are well-known to be at the highest risk of harming themselves with any current severe life-threatening addictions.
