Bring Mr. Angel Pradas back to Cristo Rey

The Issue

It has come to the attention of many alumni, both older and more recent, that Mr. Angel Pradas has been forced out of his position at Cristo Rey. We are all extremely concerned with this issue because his official termination letter stated, “without cause”. Many alumni have already contacted Mr. Angel Pradas, and we have learned that his termination was ignited by the lack of him checking his voicemail. The action of terminating his contract to our understanding was due to him not following the school’s mission. We are all extremely concerned with this issue because we believe he was not given a fair treatment.

If anyone exemplified the true meaning of “Men for Others” it was Mr. Pradas; his devotion to Cristo Rey goes unmatched. He has been a role model, a counselor, teacher, retreat leader, bus driver, but most importantly a friend. He is the type of teacher that we believe fits the exemplary mode for Cristo Rey. We are concerned because Cristo Rey is losing a cornerstone, and we are sincerely concerned with the direction Cristo Rey is taking. Melinda Gates stated, “Cristo Rey is magical. What you see is hope and optimism.” Mr. Pradas has been part of Cristo Rey for twelve years and has been a major part of making Cristo Rey magical; he is loved by students, teachers, and alumni. We know Mr.Pradas still has a desire and passion for teaching and impacting the lives of Cristo Rey students. We are also concerned with the atmosphere of the current Cristo Rey student body; many of us have younger siblings and they are extremely upset. As alumni, we care about the wellbeing and the education of the current students and we do not want to see them be affected during this event.

We feel united in this issue because it is a serious concern of ours, and we believe Cristo Rey has the obligation to listen to its alumni.
We are asking that Mr. Pradas be reinstated to his position at Cristo Rey, effective immediately. Cristo Rey taught all of us to be “Committed to Justice” and to be “Men and Women for Others,” and we are actively demonstrating those traits here. Please give Mr. Angel Pradas a fair chance to recuperate his job. This means a great deal to us. Please hear our voices.
Sincerely,
