It was a shocking revelation that rocked our community deeply. But the situation became even more egregious when law enforcement, without any investigation, determined that no crime had taken place because Montana’s legal framework has not kept pace with technological advances threatening our privacy.

Every day, artificial intelligence is being utilized to violate individuals' privacy and consent: by creating, distributing and even possessing explicit content, commonly known as deepfake pornography. Deepfake technology superimposes people's faces onto explicit images and videos without their knowledge or permission.

It's happening right here in Montana, and our laws offer no sanctuary nor justice for the victims. This grim reality exposes an urgent need for legislative change in our state to address the insidious and growing threats posed by AI-generated non-consensual pornography.

We are seeking swift, immediate action from the Montana State Legislature and Governor Greg Gianforte to criminalize the creation, possession, and distribution of AI-crafted explicit content produced without the clear consent of all individuals depicted.
